What should a medical system do to be effective?
- It should keep the healthy at the peak of their physical, mental and spiritual health
- It should restore the health of the unhealthy through lifestyle and thought process changes enabling them to regain their health, place in society, happiness and their spiritual connection with the world
- It should cure the sick through well directed interventions
- It should comfort those that cannot be healed and make arrangements to allay their pain
Keeping people healthy requires the following interventions
- Ensuring the health of the environment and its resources
- Ensuring the health of the vegetable and animal kingdom
- Ensuring a diverse, safe and nutritious food basket and chain
- Ensuring sanitation and hygiene at personal and community levels
- Ensuring purity of body and mental hygiene
- Ensuring work for all, satisfaction in work and enough income to meet daily needs and aspirations
- Ensuring moral and spiritual education to keep populations connected to the source of health, happiness and fulfilment
- Ensuring peace, order and harmony in society
These were the basic tenets of the India we left behind and neglected. These were what sustained India for thousands of years and established a sustainable and yet regal civilization that fulfilled personal, societal, and spiritual goals by establishing a Dharma that took care of the needs of the celestial, plant, animal, human, and spiritual worlds.
"May peace radiate there in the whole sky as well as in the vast ethereal space everywhere.
May peace reign all over this earth, in water and in all herbs, trees and creepers.
May peace flow over the whole universe.
May peace be in the Supreme Being Brahman.
And may there always exist in all peace and peace alone.
Aum peace, peace and peace to us and all beings!"
- Yajur Veda.
